It was a difficult night in Alexandroupolis, as the fire that broke out yesterday morning raged, having burned houses and cars in the villages of Aetochori and Pefka.

The mayor of Alexandroupolis, Yiannis Zamboukis, told SKAI that at the moment the community of Loutros is not in danger, as the front that was moving towards the village is heading east towards the national road.

Three elderly people were also taken to hospital with breathing problems.
In the meantime, the Commander of the Fire Services of the Regional Unit of Evros, Spyros Koutras, was hospitalized in Alexandroupoli due to unwellness.
In immediate readiness there are three floating vessels of the coast guard and private boats in the wider sea area of Alexandroupoli to assist if required. Three more floating boats rush in.
Five messages were sent from 112 yesterday and eight settlements have been evacuated.
The last message called the residents of Alexandroupolis to remain in their homes due to the suffocating atmosphere from the smoke of the large fire raging in the area. At the same time, it refers citizens to a website for self-protection instructions.
