The Greek Police have responded to 1,241 complaints of animal abuse from the beginning of July 2023 until Saturday, August 19, 2023, while 245 criminal files have been filed and 53 people have been arrested.

At the same time, in the same period, administrative fines have been imposed in 282 cases, with the amount of fines amounting to 964,400 euros, by the competent services of the Greek Police, in cooperation with municipalities, the National Transparency Authority and the Ministry of the Interior.

As emphasized in the relevant announcement, ELAS “gives particular importance to the faithful observance and implementation of the legislation regarding the protection of stray and tamed animals, aiming to eliminate incidents of abuse and torture”.

In this direction, the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police have drawn up special operational plans, based on which police actions are implemented with the aim of fully dealing with the phenomenon of animal abuse.

Finally, as pointed out in the relevant announcement, ELAS, within the framework of its duties and responsibilities and in cooperation with the other co-competent bodies, continues daily the implementation of specialized actions and initiatives, which will contribute decisively to addressing the negative phenomenon of animal abuse, but also simultaneously informing citizens about the rights of animals, but also the obligations of their owners.
