For the third day, the fire continues in the municipality of Nestos with the rekindlings being continuous due to the strong winds blowing in the area, which makes the work of firefighters and volunteers difficult. However, the situation today, and especially after midday, started to improve as the winds have weakened and aerial water drops have increased.

The two main fronts of the fire are in the villages of Avramylia and Dialecto, where a total of 44 firefighters are operating, with 15 water vehicles, two pedestrian units and many volunteers, while two Canadair aircraft are assisting from the air, one of which even came from Croatia.

It should be noted that the fire started at noon on Monday from a forest area of Dialecto village and with the force of the winds created several fronts approaching populated areas of Nestos municipality. The fire has so far burned many houses in the local communities of Avramylia and Gerontas, several sheep farms, olive groves and thousands of acres of grassland.

In addition, today at noon, a small fire broke out in a grassy area in Tenagi of Philippi, west of Kavala, near the mud baths of Krinides. The fire was effectively dealt with by the fire brigade that rushed to the scene, as well as by the water carriers of the municipalities of Kavala and Pangaeo, without becoming large.

At the same time, there are many calls from associations of the Regional Unit of Kavala for voluntary fire protection, of the peri-urban forest of the city and Mount Pangaio, in cooperation with the fire department, while a strict police order has already been issued to prohibit traffic within the forest areas. At the same time, the police are announcing in all directions that if any citizen perceives suspicious movements near forest lands, he must notify the competent authorities and under no circumstances should he get involved himself.
