The perpetrator, together with accomplices who have not yet been identified, demanded extortionate sums of money from the immigrants in order to release them.
Thirteen foreigners, including six minors, were held against their will by a 20-year-old man in an abandoned business building in the Echedoro area of Thessaloniki.
The police officers of the Directorate of Foreigners of Thessaloniki, after cooperation with police officers of the Kavala Immigration Management Department, located – at noon yesterday – and released the immigrants, who, as it was found, lacked travel documents and arrested the 20-year-old, who also did not have documents for his legal stay in the country.
The perpetrator, together with his accomplices, whose details have not yet been identified, extorted sums of money from the illegal immigrants in order to release them.
At the expense of the 20-year-old foreigner, the police officers of the Migration Management Department of Agios Athanasios created a case file for the offenses of criminal organization, illegal detention, extortion and the illegal transfer – promotion of immigrants within the country.
The arrested person will be taken to the competent Prosecutor, while the investigations continue for the identification of the rest involved in the case.
