The special O Melhor de São Paulo Gastronomia – Restaurantes, Bares e Cuisine brings a selection of more than 900 places to eat and drink in the city, presented according to their specialty and with information about the neighborhoods in which they are located.
In addition to the selection, the project highlights winners elected by the specialized jury and highlights the opinion of city residents through a Datafolha survey, which draws up a list of the best addresses in São Paulo according to São Paulo residents.

BEAUTIFUL SINTRA
The house of restaurateur Carlos Bettencourt maintains its vigor on the eve of its 20th anniversary. Chef Patricia Bettencourt, his wife, specializes in shrimp dishes. The Bela Sintra version has curry, cream and coriander and is served with almond rice (R$217). From the section dedicated to cod, the millefeuille au gratin sandwiches puff pastry with fish chips, tomato, shiitake and spinach (R$178).

QUINTA DO MARQUÊS
Headquartered on Castelo Branco highway, the mega-sized restaurant became a chain. In the capital, the Jardim Paulistano unit also works as a bakery and serves Brazilian dishes in the buffet (R$ 95.50 per kilo). Portuguese recipes, only à la carte. The cod à gomes de sá comes in an individual portion (R$95) or in a generous half portion that serves two (R$250).

ALFAMA DOS SAILORS
At the age of 54, he maintains an extensive menu of classic dishes. The house’s flagship, Vila Real-style cod is grilled with mashed potatoes, chickpeas, peppers and a spiced sauce — generous, it feeds up to four people (R$ 499). The malandrinho octopus rice is offered in two sizes: individual (R$ 179) and for two (R$ 299).

AXED
Typical dishes such as cod fritters, fava beans with rojões, green broth, octopus salad, cod with cream and sweet baba de camel are served in an all-you-can-eat format (R$150 per person). For those who prefer, there is an à la carte service —bacalhau à brás costs R$99. On Wednesday nights, dinner is rocked by live fado music.

COD, WINE & CO.
In the year of its fiftieth anniversary, it has just won its first branch, on the ground floor of Residencial George V, in Itaim Bibi. Cod is the king of the menu and appears in 16 traditional recipes. Among the most sought after are cod with cream, with colored potatoes, fresh cream sauce, catupiry and parmesan, and Roman style, with boiled potatoes, shrimp sauce and gratin mozzarella — both cost R$ 270 (for two or three people).

WHEEZING
More informal house by restaurateur Carlos Bettencourt, from A Bela Sintra, with an Iberian menu with a strong Portuguese accent. Breaded codfish, with almonds, potatoes, spinach and tomatoes (R$179), and octopus à lagareiro with mashed potatoes (R$146) are among the hits on the menu. At lunch on Saturdays, there’s suckling pig with beans (R$ 119).

COSTA NOVA
With an informal atmosphere of a Portuguese tavern, it serves classic dishes such as codfish à lagareiro (R$119) and lamb shank, which features the ham marinated in wine, accompanied by rice pulled in its own broth, browned potatoes and fried bread (R$99). . Few customers do without the cod fritters as a starter (R$41, ten units). The restaurant has another house in Jardim Paulista.

MARIALVA PORTUGUESE KITCHEN
It combines a cozy atmosphere with well-executed recipes. There are classics like the seafood cataplana, cooked with octopus, squid, shrimp, mussels, fish and cream (R$ 131), and signature dishes like codfish Marialva, a confit steak served with potatoes and onions on the sherry wine (R$155 for one, R$271 for two).

WELL OF COURSE!
As in the Serra da Cantareira unit, the restaurant occasionally promotes live fado nights. From the Lusitanian specialties menu, grilled codfish with battered potatoes (R$284 for two) and grilled sardines with potatoes, peppers, rice and bread (R$105) are the clientele’s favourites. The pear drunk in red wine is also popular (R$22).

PATIO DAS CANTIGAS
Anchor of the Casa Cascais development, which presents itself as a mall, has a kitchen headed by the Portuguese Maria Conceição Costa. Its entree menu is divided by regions. The squid (R$69) fried in olive oil and garlic is from the Algarve, and the asparagus au gratin with cheese (R$62) is from the Island of Madeira. The codfish puff pastry with spinach purée (R$129) and the Dom Rodrigo style cake (R$33) are among the top orders.

PRESIDENT
Founded six decades ago as a multi-cuisine restaurant, it established itself based on cod recipes. Today, fish is ubiquitous on the menu, served in portions of four sizes: for one, three, four or five people. Codfish à President is a steak roasted in olive oil with red potatoes, broccoli, eggs, onion, garlic and olives (from R$182 to R$919).

QUINTA DE SANTA MARIA
It presents the cuisine of the north of Portugal. The alheira à mirandela with boiled potatoes, fried egg and broccoli (R$89.90) whets your appetite for the roasted rack of lamb, with port wine sauce, with red potatoes and broccoli (R$135). For three, the codfish and shrimp cataplana has tomatoes, onions, peppers and potatoes (R$519).

QUINTA DO OLIVARDO
At the São Paulo branch, Olivardo Saqui serves the same dishes as at the headquarters in São Roque. Among them are cod à zé do pipo house style, au gratin with mashed potatoes, mayonnaise and onion in olive oil (R$ 366, for two), and the Madeiran kebab with grilled sirloin steak, with rice, salad, bolo do caco and fried corn (R$ 219, for two). At the executive lunch, from Monday to Friday, cod à brás costs R$79.

PORTUGUESE RANCH
Anyone who crosses the store arrives at the spacious and noisy hall, where the piglet à bairrada is the flagship: roasted for a long time, it gains a golden skin and goes to the table with salad, Portuguese potatoes and orange (R$ 140 for one person, R$ 260 For two people). Grilled over coals, sardines are served with mashed potatoes, peppers and green salad (R$120, six units).

TASCA DO ZÉ E DA MARIA
For two people, grandma’s codfish brings the fish fillet roasted in olive oil with onions, potatoes, olives, tomatoes, boiled eggs, broccoli and rice (R$ 329.90). Individually, the tavern lamb comes with rice pulled in its own sauce and white beans, priced at R$157.
