As of today, Wednesday, August 30, the “Students’ basket” and the improving changes in “Household basket» for the benefit of consumers, as provided for in the Ministerial Decision signed by the Minister of Development, Mr. Kostas Skrekas.

Specifically, in “Students’ basket» it is planned to include at least one product from the following product categories:

  • School bags
  • Caskets
  • Notebooks (and notebook labels and covers)
  • Wooden or mechanical pencils
  • Coloured markers
  • Pen
  • Erasers
  • Scrapers
  • Diabetes
  • Rulers
  • and Photocopy paper.

In the “Students’ Basket” initiative, which will take effect until October 3rdparticipate both the businesses that participate in the “Household Basket”, as long as they have products in the aforementioned categories, as well as specialized businesses selling school supplies, stationery and toys.

All businesses are required to send on a weekly basis, every Wednesday by 9:00 am, a list of the products and prices included in the “Student Basket”.

Businesses participating in the “Household Basket” will send the catalogs through the e-katanalotis platform and the rest by email to the General Secretariat of Trade & Consumer Protection.

Separate point of sale for “Cart”

Based on the Ministerial Decision, for both the “Student Basket” during the period August 30 – October 3 and the “Household Basket” from August 30 onwards, it is planned to create at least one separate point of sale in a prominent place in the store , in which the products are placed and made available to the consumer public.

At the separate point of sale, all the products of the “Students’ Basket” and products of the following categories from the “Household Basket” will be available:

  • Rice
  • Bread for toast
  • Spaghetti No. 6
  • Flour for all uses
  • Legumes (lentils or beans or chickpeas)
  • Evaporated milk
  • Preserved tomato juice
  • Eggs (cage and barn)
  • Olive oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • White sugar
  • Greek coffee
  • Instant coffee
  • Washing machine detergents
  • Detergents for mopping and cleaning surfaces – bleaches
  • Food for dogs
  • Cat food.

Brand-label product in “Household Cart”

At the same time, as of today, August 30, businesses participating in the “Household Basket” are required to include at least one branded product in the following product categories:

  • Rice
  • Spaghetti No. 6
  • Flour for all uses
  • Lentils
  • Beans
  • Chickpeas
  • Fresh whole milk
  • Fresh milk with low fat
  • Evaporated milk
  • Unflavored cow’s milk yogurt
  • Unflavored low-fat cow’s milk yogurt
  • Preserved tomato juice
  • Frozen vegetables (at least two of peas, okra and green beans)

Businesses that do not offer branded products in the respective category to the consumer public are exempt from this obligation.

It should be noted that for all product categories included in the “Household Basket” and the “Student Basket” the provision of Law 5045/2023 is already in force, based on which a ceiling is imposed on the gross profit margin per unit at the levels before December 31 2021.
