The police officer is charged with felony extortion and bribery, while his son is charged with complicity
The investigator’s threshold the 53-year-old police officer who was arrested on Sunday in Chania for bribery and extortion passed early today shortly after 9:00 in the morning.

By decision of the headquarters of ELAS the two police officers were suspended since yesterday morning while an EDE has been made available in order to identify any disciplinary offenses within the service related to the case.

The two defendants were arrested on Sunday afternoon after a major operation by the Directorate of Internal Affairs. The reason for the police officer to be targeted by internal affairs was a complaint that reached the service from a Chania businessman who complained that he was a victim of the actions of the police officer in question.

At the same time, according to the official announcement of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, other cases arose against the police officer which involved the extortion of a large sum of money from a lawyer, the receipt of a sum of money from a private individual for “deleting” a call and obstructing the repair of a property owned by an insurance agent through complaints about illegal construction work, with the aim of acquiring it himself at half the price.
