The assurance that the Health Center of Tinos is staffed, in order to cover daily and extraordinary incidents which are increased, due to the intense tourist season, is pointed out in a statement by the administration of the 2nd Ministry of Health of Piraeus and the Aegean on the occasion of the tragic incident on the island which had as resulting in the death of a three-year-old boy.

In its announcement, the 2nd Ministry of Health emphasizes that the Tinos Health Center “Provides its services on a daily basis to hundreds of citizens who visit it”, while regarding the incident it states the following:

“On the 29th of August at 09:02, a minor (3 years old) was brought by a patrol car and accompanied by his father, due to reported choking on a foreign body (grape).

He was presented pale with central cyanosis, no cough, no crying, no speech, open eyes.

Resuscitation efforts were made (CPR) by the doctors of the Health Center (Margitsa Sourani-Specialized Pediatrician, Kioskli Stefania, Zerva Nefeli, Anastasia Politi, Athina Panagiotopoulou-Agricultural Doctors and Nikolaos Dimitriou-Specialist in General Medicine) and by the nurses (Chrysoula Savvorginaki, Anna Peliotopoulou).

A grape root was removed without patient response.

Intubation was then performed without increasing oxygen saturation.

Despite the efforts of the doctors, it became impossible to restore his cardiorespiratory function.”

Everything that was humanly and medically possible was done to save the child, concludes the statement expressing sincere condolences “for the untimely death of the child, which has plunged us into unspeakable grief.”
