Another case of attempted arson at a gas station, where a police officer is allegedly involved, is the concern of the police and judicial authorities of Volos.

Specifically, two men, 22 and 32 years old, were arrested outside a business on Larisis Avenue by OPKE Volos police officers, in cooperation with police officers of the Internal Affairs Service of ELAS Northern Greece, because arson materials were found in their passenger car during a search.

Of the two arrested, the 32-year-old is a police officer serving in Athens and has been suspended, and the 22-year-old is a student

In the car they had rented from Athens and from which the license plates had been removed, a face hood, flares, petrol cans, a globe, a fake identity card, two license plates, an iron and a folding knife were found.

In addition, during a search by the police at the student’s house in Athens, a revolver was also found.

The two arrested were taken into custody, with the charges of attempted arson with joint intent and danger to foreign things, illegal possession of incendiary materials, from which a danger may arise to a person, possession of flares, forgery, possession of weapons and of carrying weapons together, but their trial was postponed until next Monday, due to the absence of the owner of the gas station and the police officers who arrested the alleged perpetrators.

According to the Police, the two arrested were spotted by OPKE police officers walking on Larissa at 4 in the morning, outside the gas station, after they had previously parked their passenger car, with which they allegedly came to Volos, while the police officers were alerted by the gas station owner, who has installed cameras and monitors his business.

It is worth noting that when the two young men were brought in for questioning, they gave different answers as to why they were at the scene at the time of their arrest, however a similar incident had also occurred on Thursday, June 28, shortly after midnight, when the particular gas station in Larisis was once again the target of an arsonist and a video – document that had been released to the public, had recorded the perpetrator setting fire.
