The preventive measures to deal with flooding phenomena such as the cleaning of streams and wells under the jurisdiction of the Attica Region, were at the center of an enlarged meeting with the participation of the local deputy regional governors and the competent service agents convened by the regional governor G. Patoulis, on the occasion of the new data formed by the fires.
The meeting was attended by the deputy governors of the Central Sector of Athens, Vlachos Georgios, South Sector of Athens, Theodoropoulos Christos, North Sector of Athens, Kefalogiannis Loukia, West Sector of Athens, Leotsakos Andreas, Piraeus, Antonakou Stavroula, Nisson, Voidonikolas Stavros, Eastern Attica, Augerinos Athanasios, of Western Attica, Kosmopoulos Eleftherios, the mandated regional councilor Th. Katsigiannis and officials.

Both the village vice-regional governors and the mandated regional advisor, as well as the managers, referred to the actions they have undertaken, while an assessment was made of the hydraulic-flood protection projects carried out by the Region, as well as those which it is studying or financing from its own resources, on behalf of of the municipalities.
In his introduction, the regional governor emphasized the need for all services to be ready. He ordered that the high-risk streams be cleaned daily, that the execution of the required anti-flooding measures be intensified and that the related studies be completed.
Mr. Patoulis pointed out that due to the fires, the behavior of the forest lands has changed and he focused on the need to process the new data and readjust studies and projects.
“We systematically work every day to address every small and large issue that concerns local communities and the quality of citizens’ daily lives. In cooperation with the competent bodies, we are moving immediately, in order to shield Attica. For this reason, all our services are constantly vigilant and alert. Wherever necessary, we work closely with the first level of self-government and prefer a holistic approach. Climate change and its growing consequences require our immediate and coordinated mobilization for the implementation of targeted projects, for the safety of citizens’ lives and property,” the regional governor pointed out.
