STASY announced on Thursday morning the reopening of the “Evangelismos” Metro station, which had been closed due to the inflow of water from the storm that hit Attica on Wednesday afternoon.

According to STASY, the water had entered the upper level of the station from the entrances with crews pumping out the water, but also cleaning all levels of the station from the mud and transported materials that entered from the torrential waters that formed on the avenue. Vasilissa Sophia.

“At 5:30 in the afternoon and while the extreme weather was also affecting the city of Athens, large volumes of water that formed on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue entered the upper level of the “Evangelismos” station of Line 3 of the Metro.

The inflow of a large amount of water from the adjacent avenue took place with intensity from one of the entrances of the station, the “Rizari” entrance, which presents a downward slope. For safety reasons, it was deemed necessary to evacuate and immediately close the station, without however interrupting the operation of the Line, as the trains continued to pass through the station without making a stop. Technical crews of STA.SY continue to work to drain the water, but also to clean all levels of the station from the mud and the transported materials that entered from the torrential waters that formed on the avenue.
