Efforts continue to overcome, as much as possible, the major problems facing Volos and Magnesia as a whole, after the disaster caused by the Daniel disaster.

The biggest problem of the residents in the city of Volos remains the lack of drinking water and in general the water supply of the area – which is done in rotation and for a few hours – while the villages of Pelion remain blocked from the “outside” world.

The situation is addressed both in the city of Volos and in the countryside, with the distribution of free bottled water by the Municipality of Volos and donations from companies and citizens.

At the same time, dozens of cleaning crews are working to remove the volumes of mud and transportable materials from the roads so that cars can move freely, as well as the removal of cars damaged by the natural disaster that were swept away by the waters.

The biggest problem is now faced by the districts of the Old Port Authority and Palaia, where huge amounts of mud were trapped and it is difficult to remove it from these areas.

Dozens stranded in Pelion

In the wider area of Magnesia, where there has been major damage to infrastructure and especially to the road network, efforts are being made to evacuate the people trapped in the resorts of Pelion, where access is difficult or impossible.

These are tourists who have to travel to the airports and return to their home countries.

From the 730th Engineer Battalion of the 1st Army, great efforts are being made to complete the construction of the Belley-type metal bridge, over the Pellegrino stream, between Kalai Nera and Boufas, and it is expected that in the next few hours it will be put into use and reconnect South Pelion with Volos so that not to be forced to use the Kala Nera-Pinakates-Milies-Neochori road.

The situation is similar in Eastern Pelion, where the villages of Zagora, Puri and Horefto, Anilio and Mouresi are blocked off after sections of the road network have collapsed and there are hundreds of people who have to evacuate due to lack of food and also because the area is not electrified .

Yesterday afternoon, a ship chartered by PPC transported technicians, vehicles and material by sea from Volos to Milina and efforts are being made to repair the damage in the area of South Pelion.
