With the members of the Swiss Mission who with helicopters took part in the project of extinguishing the fires in Evros and the ambassador of Switzerland in Athens, Stefan Estermann, the President of the Republic met, Katerina Sakellaropoulouat Alexandroupolis airport.
The members of the Mission and the ambassador welcomed her in front of the SUPER PUMA and CANADAIR helicopters and in the discussion they had informed her about their contribution to the firefighting project.
The President of the Republic thanked them and took a photo with them. The members of the Swiss Mission are 26 and tomorrow they are leaving for their homeland.
While Mrs. Sakellaropoulou was talking to the Swiss, a small plane, which takes part in extinguishing fires, landed, and the 43-year-old Greek pilot of the civil aviation, Elisavet Vournazou, got off.
As soon as Mrs. Sakellaropoulou saw her, she hurried to meet her, hugged her, congratulated her and praised the fact that she is a woman in such a position.
Ms. Vournazou’s role is to coordinate pilots and communication. Afterwards, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou was informed about the fires in Evros and their consequences, during a meeting held with the participation of the regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Christos Metios, the mayor of Alexandroupoli Yiannis Zamboukis and representatives of the Fire Brigade, the Army, the Police and the Coast Guard.
