For the serious consequences faced by flood victims of Thessaly the Minister of Development was asked to answer Lefteris Avgenakisspeaking on the show “Mismatches” to SKAI, nominating her management of dead animals for which he clarified that municipalities and the Region are responsible.
“Collection, transport and burning are the responsibility of the municipalities and the Region”, he said while adding that the incinerator of Larissa, which was flooded, is expected to be operational soon.
According to the minister, so far 49,000 sheep and goats, 19,000 pigs, 4,186 cattle and 4,300 birds have been reported dead.
Of these, the local authorities have managed 29,000 sheep and goats, 7,000 cattle and 20 birds.
“Residents must indicate to the municipality and the district where the dead animals are”said Mr. Avgenakis, pointing out municipalities, several of which, as he claimed, do not meet their obligations.
With reference to the pumping stations that residents complain are not working, he argued that the army in cooperation with the fire brigade are making efforts to settle the problems where they exist.
Regarding the damaged crops, the Minister of Rural Development said that while the initial estimates said that the land would recover in 4 years, the study by scientists does not confirm the related fears.
