In the triangle of Larissa, Karditsa, Trikala, all the main road arteries are open, while since yesterday evening both streams of the Trikala-Larissa road axis have been opened to traffic, said the deputy representative of the Fire Department, Giannis Artopioos, a while ago, during the emergency update from the Operations Coordination Center in Larissa.

On the Athens-Thessaloniki National Highway, there has been a significant receding of the waters, Mr. Artophios noted, adding that efforts are being made to restore traffic in the next few hours. At the moment it remains closed due to the flooding phenomena of the previous days.

Then Mr. Artopioos noted that the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection has received more than 11,946 calls nationwide and has rescued 4,594 citizens to safe places.

More specifically, only in the Region of Thessaly there were 9,579 calls and 3,576 rescues and a total of 2,900 water pumping from flooded areas.

With reference to the situation in the Regional Units of Trikala and Karditsa, Mr. Artophios pointed out that most areas are fully accessible such as Palamas, Sofades, Koskinas, Psathochori, Farkadona, Kalogriana, Megala Kalivia, Pineiada, while access is only possible with large vehicles in the areas of Metamorfosi, Marathea Korda and Vlochos.

Regarding Vlohos, the Fire Brigade’s press representative noted that the residents are staying there voluntarily and are safe, just like in the rest of the areas. However, he emphasized that the forces of the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection were there this morning as well as throughout this period of time in the area in order to provide them with any assistance.

The Keramidi settlement of Trikala remains inaccessible, as Mr. Artophios said, while the residents there have left.

In the meantime, the mountain road network to Aspropotamos Trikala is damaged and blocked and the supply of essential items is carried out by helicopter, according to Mr. Artophios, who added that an attempt is being made to open roads through forest roads from Trikala Gate.

Water pumping is carried out in the Larissa Regional unit, said Mr. Artopioos, and more specifically in the settlements of Agios Thomas, Nea Smyrni and Hippocrates. In the labor houses of the Yannoulis district of Larisa, our fellow citizens are being transported all the time from the morning by watercraft.

At the same time, the electricity from Larissa to Tyrnavos has also been given to traffic and transfers are carried out only by city buses.

According to Mr. Artophios, the areas of Amphithea, Omorfohori and Platykambos are now accessible, while in the areas of Omolio, Kouloura Messagala Alexandrini, Stomio Stefanovikio, Rizomylo, forces remain under preventive surveillance of the flooding phenomenon.

“It should also be pointed out that in all regions there remain strong forces of the PS and the PP, GEETHA, ELAS, as well as the local self-government of the first and second degree. The contribution of volunteers and volunteer groups is also important.
