A 38-year-old man in Rhodes is accused of attempted rape with the use of physical violence against his estranged wife, as well as domestic threats, illegal domestic violence and dangerous bodily harm. He was arrested and yesterday apologized to the Rhodes investigator.

The 38-year-old accompanied by his lawyer he denied what was attributed to him and with the agreement of the prosecutor and the investigator he was released with strict restrictive conditions.

Specifically, the 38-year-old was imposed its conditions a ban on leaving the country, his appearance once on the first fortnight of every month at the police station in his area, a ban on approaching within 200 meters of the village where his 33-year-old estranged wife lives, as well as monitoring in a counseling center.

It is worth noting that he has also been accused of attempted murder against the 33-year-old, as he allegedly tried to suffocate her with a pillow.

The case for which the 38-year-old apologized yesterday, was reported to the Archangelos Police Department at 6.30 pm on September 10, 2023 by the 33-year-old woman.

According to her, the 38-year-old an hour earlier had gone to her house where he caused her bodily harm, abused her and tried to rape her.

He is also accused of causing bodily harm to his minor son, i.e. of slapping him, while part of the incident against the 33-year-old allegedly took place in front of their children.

The complaint resulted in the arrest of the 38-year-old and criminal charges brought against him for:

  • Attempted rape by physical violence.
  • Dangerous bodily harm in series and against a person unable to resist and in front of a minor family member.
  • Domestic threat
  • Domestic unlawful serial violence.

Yesterday noon the 38-year-old appeared before the investigator Rhodes where he apologized, denying the charges as they are attributed to him.

According to information, the defendant referred, among other things, to the psychological problems he has been facing for some years, due to specific situations, but also to the fact that the house in which his family lives, is his from his father.

The 38-year-old said that since the beginning of 2023 that he is separated from his wife, he has not only given them the house to live in, but also helps financially as much as he can to meet the needs of himself and their three children.
Regarding the incident, the 38-year-old he denied what happened,how, the 33-year-old has reported, but that he initially called her to ask about the children’s school that started the next day, and when she spoke to him coldly and in a bad way, then he walked away.

But there, at home, the 38-year-old said he found the couch behind the door and the 33-year-old hiding in another room and the children were screaming.

The 38-year-old pointed out that he would never harm his children and that when one of his children started screaming in a rage, he gave him two cuffs on the hand and two on the cheek, something that had never happened before.

He expressed his love for both his estranged wife and his children, stressing that all he wanted that day was to talk to his family.

Finally, after the completion of the procedure with the consent of the competent prosecutor, the 38-year-old was released with restrictive conditions.

The incident with the pillow

It is not the first time that the 38-year-old has been arrested for domestic violence and other offenses against his estranged wife, since the same thing happened two years ago.

According to “Rodiac” information, the incident which, according to the 38-year-old defendant, was allegedly due to a misunderstanding, occurred on the evening of July 14, 2021, in the context of a fight the couple had at the house where they lived with their three minor children.

The 33-year-old immediately filed a complaint with the Police in which she allegedly claims that the 38-year-old tried to harm her with a pillow.

The complaint resulted in the 38-year-old being arrested and brought before the District Attorney of Rhodes where criminal charges were brought against him for attempted murder, causing bodily harm, insult and threat.

After his apology, the 38-year-old man, accompanied by his lawyer Mr. Konstantinos Dendis, with the consent of the prosecutor and the investigator, was released on the condition that he appear once on the first fortnight of every month at the police station of his area, while he was forbidden to approaches his wife at a distance of less than 300 meters.

It is also worth noting that the 33-year-old wife, through her lawyer Mrs. Stelios Kiourtzis, had made a statement of support for these accusations in this case.
