For the 13th day, Volos remains without water – Submerged in mud, large areas of the districts affected by the waters of the Krausidona torrent
In Magnesia, the problems accumulated by the disaster continue to plague the residents, but little by little, some optimistic messages began to appear, giving hope for improvement, such as the situation in the overflowing Lake Karla.
The water level in Karla is gradually receding and the risk of flooding the nearby villages in Magnesia and Larissa is removed, since the flow of the waters of the Pinios towards the area is decreasing, but also the tunnel of approximately 11 kilometers has been opened that drains the lake, transporting water to the Pagasitic Gulf.
But the residents in Stefanovikio, the Rice Mill and the Magnesia Canals, as in the villages Sotirius, Achillio, Modestos and Amygdali of Larissa are still on standby and with the fear of the overflow of Karla, which due to the floods reached and exceeded the levels of 1962 when it began to dry up.
In Volos the situation remains disappointing in the city’s water supply sector, since for the 13th day the residents of the urban complex are deprived of drinking water, as the water supplied is not suitable, according to the measurements that have been made and the reports of the Ministry of Health.
In the mud they remain large areas of the districts affected by the waters of the Krausidona torrent that swept away everything in the districts of Paleo Limenarchio, Palaia, Papadiamanti, Neapoli, Agios Panteleimonas, Inopneuma and Neo Delta, despite the efforts of dozens of crews working feverishly to clean the streets and of homes in these areas.
The cloud of dust that hangs in the atmosphere of Volos continues to trouble the people of Volos who move in the center and in the affected districts, since the dried mud turns into a white powder that covers everything.
The picture on the coasts is heartbreaking beaches of Pagasitikos where incredible amounts of suspended matter cover every surface and make it impossible to approach the sea for those who want to swim. The Laskaridis Foundation has also sent the boat “Typhoon” to Pagasitikos to clean the coasts. “Typhoon” is already active on the eastern coasts of Pelion and the beaches of Ai Giannis and Papa Nero have been cleaned, removing hundreds of tons of garbage and debris from the recent storm.
