The young whale that washed up yesterday morning in the shallows of Alimos beach was seen today in Salamina, as Eugenia Skoutzou, a veterinarian and a member of the “Arion” cetacean rescue and treatment research center, told SKAI 100.3.
He added that the whale does not look as distressed and dehydrated as it did yesterday, it looks better, it does not make circular movements and there is a good chance that it will survive.
He stressed, however, that the whale has come out and volunteers, rescue teams and the Coast Guard have been mobilized to monitor its movements.
The whale after an overnight operation to be rescued was led to the high seas and released to swim.
The rescue operation was carried out with the assistance of a private boat, in which a veterinarian was on board and accompanied by a Coast Guard boat. The whale, which had a small wound in the muzzle, was offered first aid, while medical examinations were performed.
Officers of the Cetacean Rescue and Care Research Center, officers of the Port Authority of Floisvos, a patrol boat of the Coast Guard, a Voluntary Rescue Team with private divers as well as divers rushed to the place where the marine mammal was trapped early yesterday morning.
