The mayor of Lamia, Mr. Thymios Karaiskos, was attacked by strangers on his way home, returning from a TV pre-election panel.
Just before 1 in the morning unknown, attacked him by breaking the window of the car from the passenger side but also the windshield. He caught up, developed speed and escaped. A few minutes before, he had broken up with his driver and was driving himself.
Previously, during a TV show on STAR of Central Greece he had reported threats to his life, his family and his children saying that “my family and I are experiencing a drama, with threats, with insults, which have been filed with a complaint”, as he said, to add that “it is not the best mayor to see thugs roaming around his house. I have reported all this to the public prosecutor with a complaint, at an unsuspecting time. Three times I have visited the Prosecutor and I have reported specific incidents. The Prosecutor’s Office has already proceeded with a preliminary investigation.”
Mr. Thymios Karaiskos shortly after the incident he spoke of a “murderous ambush”while in a state of shock he was transferred to the Lamia hospital for precautionary reasons.
“The attack on the passenger seat is not accidental. It is the place where the mayor usually sits”, said his partner Mr. Yiannis Koutsoukis who, together with the police officers who were notified, was the first to arrive at the scene of the attack, since they had separated a few minutes before.
The police officers, led by the police director of Fthiotida, Mr. Christos Moutsokos, tried throughout the night, from the cameras in the wider area, to determine the movements of people or cars, but so far they have not detected anything relevant. As it became known, a Lamia Police car had passed through the area a few minutes before.
