By Presidential Decree signed on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the proposal of the Minister of National Defence, following the recommendation of the Chief of General Staff and a decision of the Council of Chiefs of General Staff (SGA), the highest rank is awarded to the following Officers, who died while performing a duty involving increased risk as follows:

a.​In Vice Admiral (YN) Glykeria Memekidou PN (AM: YN-232) the rank of Rear Admiral.

b. In Episminagos (YN) Evangelia Andreadakis (AM: 63908) the rank of Sub-Patron.

Also by a Presidential Decree signed on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the proposal of the Minister of National Defense and following a decision of the competent Army Crisis Council, the rank of Colonel is awarded to Sergeant Major (PZ) Georgios Voulgaris (AM: MY 21150), who died on the performance of a service that involves increased risk.

Prosecutorial intervention on the circumstances of the fatal traffic accident in Libya

At the same time, the Primary Prosecutor’s Office gave the Police an order to investigate the circumstances of the traffic accident that cost the lives of soldiers and civilians who participated in a humanitarian mission in Libya.

By order to the Sub-Directorate for the Prosecution of Crimes Against Life and Property, the Prosecutor’s Office requests that the traffic accident be examined as part of a preliminary investigation, in order to ascertain whether any criminal acts have been committed. The prosecutor’s order mentions indicative offenses such as those involving serial homicide and serial bodily harm with intent or negligence.
