Briefing meeting for the new measures being marketed in the battle against punctuality and the inflationary pressures had, yesterday afternoon, the Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas and the general secretary of Trade and Consumer Protection, Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, with the Union of Supermarkets of Greece.
The minister underlined, speaking to the representatives of the supermarkets, that the state guarantees that “all this will be carried out with rules that stimulate competition, increase transparency and ensure affordable product prices for consumers”.
As part of the government’s new interventions to protect consumers, supermarket chains were asked to:
- To send recent product price records by 09/20/2023.
- To notify the Ministry of Development of the suppliers’ price lists when there is any change in the purchase price of basic consumer products.
- To communicate daily to the Ministry of Development the retail prices of the most basic fruits and vegetables.
In addition to, it was clarified that the supermarkets will be responsible for placing the special marking on the shelf, which will inform the consumer that the specific product has a price reduction of at least 5%, for a period of at least 6 months.
The Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, said: “In this battle we must all be together. The main priority of our Government and the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is the support of the citizens in the face of unbearable accuracy. It is necessary for the companies selling products necessary for the household to realize this and, with a sense of responsibility and social conscience, to stand next to the Greek family. And, of course, it is not only a matter of ethics and solidarity but also of business viability. We all have to go through this together. On the part of the state, we guarantee that all this will take place with rules that stimulate competition, increase transparency and ensure affordable product prices for consumers.”
