A draft Presidential Decree was submitted to the Council of State for legislative processing for the approval of the special urban plan, the determination of the uses and building conditions for the new prisons in Aspropyrgos, inside the premises of the old “Camp of American Convenience” (old NATO base). In this new complex of penitentiaries Korydallos prisons will be moved.

According to the draft Presidential Decree, the area of ​​103,022 square meters, which will be occupied by the prison facilities, is divided into two zones. The first zone, with an area of ​​92,974 sq.m., is intended for the development of “New Korydallos” and the second zone, 10,048 sq.m., for the creation of the Directorate of Transitional Courts of Athens.

Furthermore, it is planned to create 40 correctional facilities, as the facilities of the old camp were scattered in small buildings, while it is also planned to have a hospital unit and training area, as well as the construction of a church.

Prison buildings will have a maximum permitted height of 9 meters while for security, observation and control infrastructures the maximum permitted height will be 14 meters.

Finally, the creation of a road around the outer limits of the prison facilities is planned, as well as the additional fencing of the building facilities.
