Wearing special uniforms, EMAK cooperated with an employee on the object of unknown sender, while the results of the laboratory analysis of EODY are awaited
An unprecedented operation by the fire department and the police was set up at noon on Friday in the center of Patras. According to the website pelop.gr, a few minutes after 2:30 in the afternoon, the 6th EMAK of Patras receives a signal about the existence of a suspicious envelope with powder at the central branch of ELTA in Patras, at the junction of Maizonos and Zaimi streets, from the Fire Operations Center.
10 members of the chemical biological, radiological incident and technological accident management and response team (CHBRPTA) rush to the scene, as well as ELAS pyrotechnicians who, based on protocol, check the area for the possibility of an explosive device. Subsequently, the detection and intervention team of EMAK enters the building, wearing special uniforms with breathing apparatus, carrying radiological detectors and dosimeters.
Inside is the employee who found the envelope that arrived at the ELTA of Patras, from an unknown sender and according to information, the recipient was the SYRIZA headquarters in Athens. He has planned and “saved” the file in a special cabinet. The woman, with the assistance of EMAK rescuers, leaves the area and, as planned, is disinfected. Two disinfection lines have been set up at the site.
The file is placed in a special package and delivered to the police and then picked up by officers of a mobile unit of the National Public Health Organization, who were at the scene of the incident. Now the results of the laboratory analysis of the dust from EODY are awaited.
