The OASA driver who told a disabled wheelchair user who wanted to get on the bus “why are you getting out” has been referred to a disciplinary review.

According to their joint statement, OASA and OSY condemn any offensive behavior of drivers towards any passenger.

In particular, as stated in the announcement, “The administrations of OASA and OSY, having learned about an incident of indecent and reprehensible behavior by a driver towards a passenger in a wheelchair, gave an order for the foreseen actions regarding the disciplinary control of the driver involved.

Procedures have already been activated to locate the employee in question, in order to summon him to the Disciplinary Council. Offensive behavior like this is not only inconsistent with the principles of the Urban Transport group (OSY has a permanent service service for citizens with disabilities, while developing a specific service plan for all passengers with mobility problems), but is reprehensible and will have the prescribed penalties ».

Intervention of Chr. Staicura

This incident caused the intervention of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras. Mr. Staikouras announced in his post on Instagram that on Monday he will meet with the wheelchair user in order to discuss the accessibility problems in public transport

What happened

The complaint about “disabled” behavior by a city bus driver has come to light. In particular, kapten_amearika, who is disabled and uses a wheelchair, decided one afternoon to take a bus to go for coffee with his friends and the price – as he states in a video he posted on tik tok – was “humiliation ».

In the video he posted, he can be seen approaching the bus door where the ramp is not working in his wheelchair. When asked about the ramp, the driver can be heard replying rudely: “Don’t you have an assistant? Let me help you.”

The young man in the wheelchair then says ‘no, I’m going out by myself’ and then the bus driver is heard saying: ‘Why? Why are you going out? Don’t go out since you can’t.”

The driver then gets down to help him and shoves him into the bus, continuing to tell him “hey the government pays you helper. Not all in the pocket.”

The person in the wheelchair replies that this is not the case in his case, and then the driver is again heard saying “why you what?”.

According to him who posted the video on Tik Tok, this is the second time he has taken a bus in Greece.

“I have hidden the driver and route because the purpose of the video is to highlight a systemic problem, not to target a driver,” he says in his video
