Angry parents are asking the Municipality to pay the amount to the private person and for the kindergarten to reopen
Angry are the parents and teachers who until last week sent their children to the 6th Kindergarten of Nea Smyrni until it was suddenly locked out last Friday as a result of which they were forced to send their children to structures – “chicken houses” as they describe them.
As the parents complain to SKAI, last Friday the kindergarten was locked, without them receiving any information from the Municipality and despite the assurances they had received that this would not happen, as a result of which they are forced to send their children to “sheltered” structures ». As they point out, 1/3 of the plot belongs to a private person. However, by decision of the Municipal Council, it was decided to buy this share from the Municipality and despite the fact that the decision has become final, the municipality has not yet paid the amount required, as a result of which the private person put a lock on the school last week.
“It closed on Friday afternoon. On Monday the school was closed. There is a long-standing dispute between the Municipality and a private individual. He owns 1/3 of the plot. By decision of the Municipal Council last May, it was decided to buy this share from the Municipality. We were assured by the school and by everyone that the children would come and the issue was resolved and two weeks later the school was closed without any information,” one of the mothers complains to SKAI, adding that they sent the children “to unsanitary annexes”.
“The school has been closed and they have sent our children to chicken coops that do not meet safety requirements.”
The outraged parents are asking the Municipality to pay the required amount in order for their children to return to their school. “The municipality should pay the amount. The matter has been finalized. Indeed 1/3 belongs to a private person and he must give him 506,000. He promised to give them and to stay open. They lied to us and the private person came and closed it.”
Francesca Dasyra, president of the “Parents’ Association of Nea Smyrni”, reports that “Nea Smyrni suffers from infants and toddlers and our children were placed in pre-schools because there are no other structures”.
