Addressing the problems created by the recent severe weather events and the immediate payment of compensation is the purpose of under the recommendation of the Beekeepers Committee of Thessaly, as was emphasized in a meeting held by the Minister of Rural Development and FoodLefteris Avgenakis with the Larissa Beekeepers Association.

“My intention is to exhaust every margin for the support of beekeeping” said, among other things, Mr. Avgenakis and asked for specific proposals for replenishing their livestock from floods and fires.

According to him, there should be continuous cooperation between organizations and beekeepers in order to achieve the inclusion of their entire beekeeping activity in the insurance context, with the aim of having identification in a digital file of the data of the beekeeping booklets and declarations of breeding bee colonies and hives in the ELGA.

According to ELGA data, in Thessaly losses have been declared in 109,000 honey bees.

The meeting, which took place at the offices of the Region of Thessaly, was attended by the Regional Governor, Kostas Agorastos, the Secretary General, Giorgos Stratakos, the Member of Parliament, Christos Kapetanos, the Managing Director of ELGO DIMITRA, Panagiotis Hadjinikolaos and the Deputy Regional Governor for the primary sector, Apostolos Billis, while the President, Petros Saroudis, the General Secretary, Ioannis Senko, the Treasurer, Petros Pantazis and the member, George Sfikas, were present on behalf of the Larissa Beekeepers Association.
