Two people were arrested by the officers of the Phaistos Police Department who, according to information, are involved in the case of arson of a vehicle that happened a few days ago in the Heraklion Divisions.
The two men were brought to justice and, according to police sources, they are two people from the wider area of ​​Mesara. One is, according to the police, the natural perpetrator, a 38-year-old man, that is, the person we see on the cameras setting fire to the vehicle. The second person, a 39-year-old local businessman, reportedly confessed how is the moral author of the case.
The two were taken to the Public Prosecutor and criminal charges were brought against them, while they were given a deadline to apologize before the competent ordinary investigator on Friday, September 29.
According to information, the businessman allegedly paid the 38-year-old the amount of 500 euros, to set fire to the vehicle.
The case is being jointly handled by the investigative unit of the Fire Service in Heraklion, in collaboration with AT Phaistos, who also conducted the case file. In fact, police officers were “combing” the area, recording testimonies and looking for material from other cameras as well, in order to better see the characteristics of the perpetrator. Fortunately for them, a camera had “captured” his face and they proceeded to identify him.
In particular, they found the route followed by the perpetrator with the motorbike and also the clothes he was wearing, as seen on the cameras, inside his house.
The 38-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and during the preliminary investigation, he pointed out the businessman as the moral perpetrator of the arson. He even said that he agreed to set fire to the car because he needed the money in order to secure his dose, since he himself, as he said, is a drug user.
On Wednesday morning, the police … caught the businessman asleep, who did not know that the other man had been arrested. They went to his house, handcuffed him and although at first he denied being involved in the case, under the weight of the evidence that emerged he allegedly confessed to having the 38-year-old set fire to the car. As claimed, had personal differences with the owner of the car, that is why he proceeded with this act.
