Shortly before 3:00 p.m., the ban on the movement of vehicles in the wider area of the city of Volos was lifted, according to a new announcement by the Police.
As of yesterday at 7.30 pm, Volos was plunged into darkness and made even more difficult the efforts of the hundreds of firefighters to provide assistance where they were called. The Volos Fire Service has received over 1200 calls for help.
Large forces of the Army have arrived in the capital of Magnesia and are helping calls for help while the entire force of the 32nd Marine Brigade is on the streets with large vehicles, boats and work equipment of the 1st Army and they are trying in cooperation with firefighting forces that have arrived from all of Greece to support a ruined city.
Many districts of Volos and its suburbs have been inundated by water and mud: Old Port Authority, Papadiamantis, Agios Panteleimonas, part of the center and the beach of Volos, Palaia, Agioi Anargyroi, Neo Delta, Neapoli, the Polytechnic University.
All the suburbs of Volos in the direction of coastal Pelion have been blocked off due to the torrents that “dropped” thousands of tons of water into the sea and destroyed roads and all kinds of infrastructure. The images are tragic in Agria where all the roads have been destroyed, many houses have been flooded, businesses on the beach front have been destroyed, cars have been swept into the sea, the railway network has been damaged. The same scene in Ano and Kato Lechonia, as well as in Platanidia. The road network in Paidopoli and Agria has been destroyed and there is no road connection to Volos. As well as South Pelion with the capital of Magnesia.
Similar images in the western suburbs of Volos, with disasters in Alykes, Pefkakia, Kritharia, Agios Georgios Kynigon and Marathos.
In Alykes, torrents broke and many houses were flooded and cars and household equipment were washed away. There are also disasters in Makrynitsa, which is also blocked by road.
Finally, the sections of the Volos-Velestinou highway that were closed, such as the road to Mikrothebes, were reopened, while schools throughout Magnesia will remain closed tomorrow.
The city of Volos resembles a vast mudflat while all the suburbs in the direction of coastal Pelion have been blocked off because of the streams that “dropped” thousands of tons of water into the sea and destroyed roads and all kinds of infrastructure.
The entire area towards Agrias remains cut off by roadwhile the village has been buried in mud, soil and water.
In Agria all the roads have been destroyed, many houses have been flooded, businesses on the beach front have been destroyed and cars have been swept into the sea, which has been turned brown by the tons of mud that have been dumped there.
Since yesterday, the entire picturesque fishing village has been flooded, as a result houses and businesses to “sink” in the muddy waterwhile many residents were lucky to even escape with their lives.

The situation is dramatic in Northern Evia. Beyond the helicopter crash which has shocked everyone, the disasters are unstoppable in the region.
particularly the municipality of Limni – Mantoudi – Agia Anna is experiencing unprecedented situations from extreme weather phenomena.
Whole houses, now, became ballast in the rushing waters and the inhabitants helplessly see the destruction.
In the following video from Krya Vrysi, in Evia, a house is driven… into the sea by the rushing waters that descend.
As the municipal councilor Vassilis Stamou stated on Evima.gr, the house is not inhabited, it is a holiday home and in a fraction of a second it was swept away by the rushing waters.
According to eyewitnesses, the water began to gradually “eat” the embankment that existed next to the river. When this fully receded, the rushing water swept the entire house away with the river bed opening up even more.
Indicative four villages in the Municipality of Istiaia-Edipsos were cut off after the heavy rains after the area was filled with tons of mud with the volume of water threatening homes and infrastructure.
The seat of the municipality is unfortunately not possible to reach while last night families with small children were at risk.
In fact, the fire department and self-governing authorities fought a “titanic battle” yesterday in order to ensure the physical integrity of citizens.
Entire villages have been submerged by the unprecedented long-lasting storms with which bad weather Elias has been hitting Evia since yesterdaywith the residents of Istiaia climbing onto boats to save themselves from the rushing waters.
Residents made superhuman efforts to protect their families.
The height of the water in areas of the municipality of Istiaia Edipsos has covered everythingwhich does not allow rescue crews and units of the fire department and Civil Protection to get close enough to free people.
However, in the early hours of the morning the men of the seasonal Fire Department went out in boats and freed people from the Neos Pyrgos.
Between them the firefighters had to intervene to free a mother and a small child in Asmenio who had been surrounded by water.
In the last 24 hours, 400 cubic meters of water per hectare have fallen in Istiaeawhile in the last 6 hours of non-stop rain, more than 150 cubic meters of water per hectare have fallen in the area.
In many cases, the water has exceeded 60 cm, making it impossible for rescue crews to access.
Before the first light of day the residents of Asmini, Pefki, Artemisio and Gouves, received a message from 112 to stay in their homes and avoid any movement.
The situation in Lamia
In Lamia all night they tried to strengthen the dikes in Sperchio to avoid flooding in a wider area.
Dozens of trucks are unloading material and strengthening embankments at critical points, which have so far contained the river’s momentum.
This was helped by a recession for about 6 hours in the intensity of the rainfall, with the consequence that there was not an excessively large volume of water. But since 4:00 in the morning it has been raining torrentially both in Lamia and in West Fthiotida and the anxiety has started again for Sperchio.
The residents of the village of Komma, which is facing immediate danger, have been on constant alert since last night, so that when the signal to evacuate is given, they can leave quickly, in order not to be trapped by the waters. As a precaution, approximately 15 families, with vulnerable members, have been transferred to hotels as well as their relatives. Earth-moving machines struggle through the night on the embankments and many of the residents remain gathered with the authorities at the community office. Buses are waiting near the village to help evacuate people, while domestic animals have already been moved to safe places since yesterday.
