He also added that he is not at all interested in negative comments, since he has many distinctions in basketball, which he never imagined.
“Maybe I don’t have the right picture of the team yet, because we haven’t played an official game. I’ll have a better opinion after the first few games.
Year after year there were discussions with Red Star. The agreement we made with the president of the club was that I would come this year. In two minutes we agreed. I’m happy, I know we have a lot of work, nervousness and everything that goes with it, but we have to focus on us and our game and then the result will come.
We are an experienced team with an experienced coach. It is the strongest Red Star. I don’t know if I’m the biggest name in the club’s history (as Nedovic said) and I won’t get into that debate.
I will just repeat: it is up to us to do our best, to concentrate and with the help of the fans, the people who will support us, to open the season as well as possible and to gain confidence, as early as possible. So we can get a great result.
I would not like to fly in the clouds and make predictions. We have to go game by game, build the atmosphere and play in it until May or June.
The first EuroLeague game with Red Star will definitely be very emotional for me. It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time. The fans will come to support this team, which is destined to do a lot. They also need to be patient, this is a new team and we will need time to get used to it.
I want to do something beautiful and big with Red Star. Winning trophies abroad is great, but winning trophies with a club from Serbia, which you support, is something special – I want to feel and experience that.
I really don’t pay attention and I’ve never paid attention to the comments (of those who say I didn’t devote myself enough to basketball because I preferred to have a good time), so it doesn’t bother me. Maybe I did at times when I was 21, 22 years old, but I was committed to basketball to the fullest extent.
When I was in Moscow, one time Kirilenko came and said: “Come on, play a little stronger defense”. And I ask him: “Kirilenko, how many blocks did you have?” He says, “Seven.” I answer him: “You would have zero if I played defense”. There were areas of the game that I needed to fix, work on, but still, that’s how it is.
After the age of 23 or 24, I stopped proving myself to others, I just proved who I am. The reason I went to America was to see if I could, for how long and how much I could play with the best players in the world. I’m glad I was there and in that respect I’m sorry I didn’t go sooner, because my stay in America would have been very different. I don’t regret it though. Nice to see everyone there. It was a nice experience that changed me and my view of basketball for the better.
All of us involved in sports dream of lifting the EuroLeague trophy, becoming world or European champions or becoming Olympic champions. But I never imagined, nor could my imagination conceive that I would have such a decent career, that among other things I would go to America. Really. Maybe I’m modest,” were his words Teodosic.
