He resolved the feud that had cost the life of his 14-year-old brother- He stood by Andreas Papandreou and had agreed to vote for Christos Sargetakis
Vangelis Pentaris, a captain-deputy, a master of peace, as he described himself in his autobiography, passed away.
V. Pentaris has associated his name with heroic deeds, as a captain, but the most defining moment of his life was when he decided to join the party’s president, Andreas Papandreou, and vote for the President of the Republic, Christos Sargetakis.
With this move, he put an end to his family’s feud with the Sargetakis family.
Years later, as a member of PASOK, he was faced with a big dilemma, however, he decided to do what he thought was right. In 1985 he voted for Christos Sargetakis as President of the Republic. “If I didn’t vote for him, I would be a traitor to the Republic, Greece, the party and Andreas Papandreou”, he had said in an interview with Patris newspaper.
Condolence Message of the Deputy Governor of Chania, Mr. Nikolaos Kalogeris, for the loss of Vangelis Pentaris
“With sadness, we say goodbye today to Vangelis Pentaris, a special Chaniot who served our country with honor and morals, both as a captain of the merchant navy and as a member of the Hellenic Parliament, always guided by his love for people and the justice. Raised in the rough landscape of Seliniotiki Madara, in very difficult times, with strong political and not only passions, he stood out for his faith in his ideas and his unyielding character. We express our deepest condolences to his family and relatives,” said Mr. Kalogeris.
