Legislative intervention on behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Health is requested by the Panhellenic Medical Association, in order to deal with the violence against the white shirt, on the occasion of a recent episode of the beating of a pediatric surgeon by an accompanying patient at the “Agia Sophia” hospital.

Reiterating its previous demands on the matter, the PIS demands that doctors be protected in the exercise of their duties.

“Verbal, psychological but mainly physical manifestations of violence on the part of patients and their companions, should henceforth be dealt with in a centralized and organized manner, so that we do not reach the point of having victims”, states the PIS.

Among other things, the PIS is proceeding, in consultation with the director of the “Agia Sophia” Children’s Hospital, Emmanuel Papasavva, to post relevant messages in all areas of the institution in order to raise awareness among visitors.

He also requests an immediate meeting with the Minister of Health, Michalis Chrysochoidis, in order to update his previous requests, which focus on the following:

– Creation of an “Observatory against Violence” against doctors, which will be legislated and jointly supervised by the Ministry of Health and the PIS, with the aim of recording incidents of violence and establishing rules and actions to prevent similar phenomena.
– Staffing of the Health services with permanent medical and nursing staff, in order to dramatically reduce the waiting times of the citizens.
– Operation and staffing of organized TEPs in all public hospitals.
– Mobilization of the Police and filing of lawsuits by the hospital administrations against those who commit violence against doctors.
– Emergency buttons in the EDs, so that security can rush in on time, provided that each health unit is adequately staffed and with trained security personnel.
