Mitsotakis with AUTh rector: University police will contribute to the security of universities

The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a meeting with the Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Nikos Papaioannou, today, in the context of his visit to the city.

During the meeting, the possibilities and perspectives of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki were examined in relation to the network of interventions for the upgrading of the infrastructure and the development perspective of Thessaloniki.

Mr. Papaioannou informed Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the educational plans of the University, in the framework of which the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has the opportunity today to offer a foreign language Medicine program, with tuition fees, and to attract students from all over the world. It is characteristic that for the next year more than 250 applications have been submitted for the 60 positions that it has the possibility to offer.

The Prime Minister replied that such moves show the significant contribution of the universities in further stimulating the development perspective of the city, in combination with the projects implemented to upgrade the infrastructure and highlight its comparative advantages.

During the meeting, the intention of the AUTh to create a new Medical School and facilities in the area of ​​Thermi was also set.

The issue of combating violence was also discussed.

The Prime Minister thanked the Rector for the cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Citizen Protection for ending the occupation at the AUTh that lasted 34 years.

Progress has been made on the safety of students and teachers but also on the protection of academic facilities and equipment.

The Prime Minister stressed that the contribution of the University Institutions Protection Teams (OPPI), which will be placed after their training in the institutions that face security problems, will be important in the security of the universities.
