Eleni Zografou Street will be opened to traffic tomorrow, after the completion of the renovation works in the area, which had started last July, with the aim of highlighting the cultural wealth and the monuments on both sides of the street.
The project was implemented by the Municipality of Thessaloniki and according to its announcement, “a zone with a special cultural and tourist interest, acquires the traditional color that it had in the past with the characteristic cobblestones and is attributed again to the citizens from tomorrow (02/02) – three months earlier than scheduled. “
In the area where the renovation works took place are the eastern Byzantine walls, the historical cemeteries of Evangelistria, the Protestants and the Armenians, as well as newer monuments, such as the preserved hospital “Agios Dimitrios”, the “Gardens of Pasha” and the polycharos Polichoros ». From many parts of the area where interventions were made, a unique view is offered to the monuments, the Upper Town as well as to the sea horizon of Thessaloniki.
On the axis of Eleni Zografou Street, in addition to the new cobblestone pavement, the old cobblestones were also utilized, according to the instructions of the competent archeological services, new tree plantings were upgraded, the urban equipment was upgraded and new bus stops were set up.
