The tragic event of the murder of 19-year-old Alkiviadis Kampanos by hooligans in the area of Charilaou adds another link to the black chain of incidents of fan violence. Worse still, it is increasing the number of young people who have lost their lives paying for blind hatred.
The clashes between PAOK and Aris fans have been going on for decades, but in the last 2.5 years they have peaked to such an extent that two deaths have been recorded. Apart from the 19-year-old, the Bulgarian Tosko Botzadziski also died on January 5, 2020.
The narration of the events that led to the event that took place in the early hours of Thessaloniki, begins in early October 2019, when the PAOK fans’ association in N. Krini was attacked, during which there were no injuries, despite minimal material damage.
On December 22 of the same year, an attack was recorded in a cafeteria in the same area, with two people injured, one of them seriously.
The above events were harbingers of Tosco’s murder, in the parking lot next to the Thessaloniki Concert Hall. As the police feared, many more incidents followed, while some were dealt with at birth.
October 2019: A few days after the first attack in N. Krini, the timely intervention of the police prevents a massacre in the area of Delphi, in eastern Thessaloniki, where dozens of PAOK hooligans try to go to a link in Mars by waving bats and other objects.
April 2020: Within 24 hours, two incidents of violence were reported in Toumba and Pylaiotika, with hooligan groups attacking individuals.
June 2020: A 17-year-old is attacked by a peer and a 22-year-old, who even videotape the act of beating. A similar incident took place last week in the courtyard of a high school in Thessaloniki, for which the involvement of five young people was identified.
November 2020: Warm-blooded fans clash in Nikopoli, Thessaloniki, and by the time the police arrive, they have all disappeared from the scene.
January 2021: An armed man opens fire against three supporters of a rival team on K. Karamanlis Avenue, at the height of Ippokratio. Two of the three are injured in the legs.
March 2021: A 35-year-old man is attacked with a wooden object by strangers, while he is in his car in the area of Charilaou. Two days later, the Mars fans’ association in Evosmos is attacked with stones. The only damage caused is to the security camera. All this (and especially the event of last January) leads to a bloody incident outside the “Kleanthis Vikelidis” stadium on Mars. Dozens of hooligans clash holding axes, crowbars, knives, torches and improvised Molotov cocktails. At least ten people are injured.
April 2021: Wild episodes break out in Naples between PAOK and Aris fans, as evidenced by the video published by makthes.gr.
June 2021: Young people take part in a fight (again) in Evosmos using torches and sticks and even wrapping a tree in the flames, while people who were riding in a car are also attacked.
