The French fashion house Chanel was in the spotlight of criticism after the demonstration of the Fall / Winter 2022 collection.
At the opening of the house haute couture show in Paris, the Princess of Hannover, niece of Prince Albert of Monaco and ambassador of the Chanel brand, Charlotte Casiraghi appeared in equestrian catwalk wearing a black tweed jacket.
Much of the criticism has been leveled at whether the use of a horse was animal abuse, with critics urging Chanel to reconsider animal participation in crowded events.
PETA – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in a statement expressed concern for the safety of the horse, but also the public.
In an announcement posted on Twitter, PETA UK states that horses are smart, sophisticated and easily scared, not fashion accessories to ride on a catwalk with flashing lights.
“Horses are easily frightened, which means that this irrational and reckless trick could have ended in disaster,” he said.
In another tweet, the organization referred to an earlier Stella McCartney fashion show, in which models wore catwalk animal suits without fur and leather, suggesting that Chanel should be “inspired” by people like McCartney.
The show at the Grand Palais Ephemeris, an exhibition space in Paris, has been criticized by animal rights activists and fashionistas, with some accusing the fashion house of copying Hermés, who often adopts equestrian elements in his product promotion strategy.
