The Union of Judges and Prosecutors (EDE), in today’s announcement, states that the suspension of the Athens Court of First Instance, after the repeat self-governing elections, is due to “the enormous burden that arose in the context of the recent self-governing elections”.

In more detail, the EDE in its announcement states:

The decision of the President of the Three-Member Board of Directors of the Court of First Instance of Athens to suspend the operation of the Court of First Instance on October 19 and 20 was taken due to the impossibility of the uninterrupted operation of all its services due to the excessive load, which arose in the context of the recent self-governing elections and is based on the order of article 22 par. 2 sec. a Law 4938/2022.

It was an expected development, which we had pointed out from the beginning, given that in previous electoral procedures, the duration of this suspension was foreseen, from the beginning, as five days.

Criticism, therefore, of the decisions of the institutions of Justice must be carried out with objective criteria and without personal insults.

The President of the Three-member Board of Directors of the Court of First Instance of Athens, Mr. Christoforos Linos, was honored with the vote of the Judges of the Court of First Instance in a critical position of the Judiciary and unprovoked spikes against his person constitute a lack of respect towards the institution of the Self-Administrator, ending in disharmony with the will of all those who wish to participate in a wider and honest institutional dialogue about Justice».
