The Rector of the National Technical University of Athens, A. Boutouvis, made the following statement regarding the recent interventions against squatters:
“Occupied spaces, such as at the NTUA and other universities in the country, become hotbeds for groups that destroy, vandalize, threaten, causing great damage and disturbance. This situation is dealt with by recourse to justice and police intervention.
The silence, the tolerance, the demonization of the treatment, the appeasing approaches and scenarios of (forced) coexistence, proposed directly or indirectly by some sides, have been proven to maintain for decades and worsen an unacceptable situation, which is a global prototype for the operation and image of universities.
Recent and past serious incidents, not all of which receive wide publicity, along with “harsh” images are known to the relevant authorities.
