Intervention at the highest level by the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Georgia Adelini appeared on the surveillance case, (pretador) with an order to upgrade the investigation to the highest prosecutorial level.

The Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, by order of the Prosecutor’s Office of First Instance, which until today handles the relevant investigations, after complaints of illegal surveillance, requests to forward the relevant case files to the Supreme Court, so that the investigation can be carried out from now on by a Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court court Mr. Achilleas Zisi.
In the prosecutor’s order, the reasons for the upgrade of the investigation, which began more than a year and a half ago, are detailed.

In particular, as emphasized by the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, the relevant investigation concerns a matter of “major importance” and due to the delay in its completion, “there is a risk of statute of limitations for the investigated crimes”.

At the same time, it is noted that the investigation into the surveillance began in April 2022 and has not been completed, while it is clarified that the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court who will take over from now on will take into account all the material that has already been collected and obviously will not start from zero base. The order is also communicated to the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office.

From April 2022, the Athens District Attorney’s Office is conducting a preliminary examination for the well-known wiretapping case, which has not yet been concluded.
Because this case a) is of an exceptional nature and of major importance and the upgrading of the relevant investigation is required and b) by delaying the completion of the complaints in addition to the related complaints there is a risk of statute of limitations for the investigated crimes, please in accordance with article 32 of the CPC to personally carry out a preliminary examination in which to incorporate the evidentiary material that has been collected so far and to submit to us the relevant case file with your reasoned conclusion.
The Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office and the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, to whom our order is communicated, must, upon receiving it, refrain from any relevant action and forward us immediately, i.e. within today, the first Service the relevant to the matter files (i.e. the file that was formed on 11-15-2022 after the correlation of all the files related to the case ΑΑ2022/23, as well as those others that were subsequently associated with it – ΑΑ2022/1124, ΑΑ2022/1101, Ε2022/4518, Ε2023 /1670 both and every document, finding, etc. elements that go back to the same place and fall into them.
