Nineteen migrants were spotted and rounded up by the Coast Guard this morning in an inflatable speedboat without navigation lights, moving towards the coast of Kos.

The patrol vessel LS-EL.AKT. proceeded to use sound and light signals, which the operator of the above speedboat ignored, carrying out dangerous maneuvers, endangering his passengers as well as the crew of the patrol vessel.

A chase ensued and the T/X vessel was then brought to a standstill, where a total of twenty (20) people were rescued, who were then handed over to the Security officers of the relevant Port Authority.

From the Kos Port Authority which is conducting the preliminary investigation, the 21-year-old foreign operator of the T/X vessel was arrested from the above, for violation of articles 30 of Law 4251/2014 “Immigration and Social Integration Code and other provisions”, 83 of Law. 3386/2005 “Illegal Entry and Exit from the country”, as amended and in force as well as articles 306 “Report” and 187 “Criminal Organization” of the Criminal Code.
