Answer of the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family to a topical question of SYRIZA MP Theanos Fotiou
Earlier than any other year, the school meals program is implemented which started on October 11, 2023, as answered by Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Sofia Zaharakis to a topical question by the MP of SY.RIZ.A Theanos Fotiou.
He added that “compared to the 2018-2019 school year when SYRIZA was in government, the program had started on November 5 and 1,058 school units participated, while 153,244 school meals were distributed, in contrast to last year when 1,629 elementary schools participated schools in the country and this year they increased to 1,658, the most that have ever participated, distributing 217,267 meals daily.
In summary, he said, that “from 2020 the program budget has increased by 39%, the number of school units by 35.34% and the number of meals by 17.5%.
Finally, he announced that the program “School Lunches” implemented by OPECA in 1,658 school units, in 134 Municipalities of the Country and concerns the feeding of up to 217,267 students on a daily basis, while the budget of the program for the current school year amounts to 102,000,000 euros.
