A serious case of poisoning by baits with dead dogs, cats and wild animals in Litcharda Apokorona, in October 2019, was heard yesterday.

According to cretalive.gr, the result of the trial is 18 months in prison, suspended and a 5000 euro fine to the person who was arrested at the time and a case file had been filed against him, according to a statement from the First Hunting Federation of Crete and Dodecanese.

As reported, on October 24, 2019, following complaints of animal poisoning in Apokoronas, an autopsy had been performed on the specially trained dog Karina, owned by the First Hunting Federation of Crete Dodecanese in Chania, and of its operator, Federal Gamekeeper Yiannis Grigorakis.

At that time, in addition to the dead animals that had been collected in the previous days, they had found in Litzarda, fifteen (15) poisoned baits.

Suspicions had focused on a specific personin whose house, in the morning hours of December 19, 2019, a search was carried out with the specially trained dog, in the presence of a judicial officer, police agencies and Federal Guardians.

From research a package containing a pesticide, the use of which is prohibited in Greece, was found, as well as a shotgun, the license for which had expired.
