Russia today called on the United States to “stop” escalating the crisis between Russia and the West over Ukraine, in the wake of Washington’s decision to send an additional 3,000 troops to Eastern Europe.
“We are constantly urging our American partners to stop fueling tensions,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov.
According to him, “Russia’s concern is clear and fully justified”, given that “they are sending Americans to European countries.”
Yesterday, Wednesday, Russian diplomacy called the announcement of the sending of the aid “catastrophic”.
Russians and Westerners are taking part in various forms of talks, showing both sides that they are aiming for a de-escalation, but at the same time the will not to back down from the starting positions.
Moscow has deployed tens of thousands of troops for months on its border with Ukraine, indicating to the West that it is preparing a major military operation. Russia denies it.
The Kremlin opposes NATO threatening Russia’s security and calls for an end to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s enlargement policy and withdrawal from Eastern Europe in order to ease tensions. This request is rejected by Europeans and Americans.
Washington has urged opponents to pledge not to deploy offensive military means inside Ukraine, Moscow to inspect some military infrastructure of concern to Europe, and the two countries to agree on arms control measures.
French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Solz are considering going to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin has confirmed that talks are under way.
