The Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis presented the upcoming legislative initiatives of the Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports at today’s cabinet meeting.

The bill, which will soon be tabled in the Parliament, includes the ministry’s initiatives for three matters of its competence: vocational education in the country and the huge need to redesign it to a large extent, the upgrading of the Democritus University of Thrace and the modernization of the operation of the Academy of Athens.

In his post on social media, Mr. Pierrakakis noted about the bill:

“We presented to the Council of Ministers the upcoming legislative initiatives of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports for the strengthening of Vocational Education and Training, the strengthening of the Democritus University of Thrace and the modernization of the operating framework of the Academy of Athens.

By combining the strengths of EPAL, IEK and Laboratory Centers to achieve scale at the local level and by enriching them with modern curricula and training guides, we are updating the operating framework of Vocational Education and Training so that it responds even more to modern challenges.

We are upgrading the Democritus University of Thrace, establishing new departments in high-demand specialties and integrating into it existing departments that already operate in the region. In the same context, we are implementing small-scale changes to the academic map.

And finally, we are modernizing the operating framework of the Academy of Athens with the aim of transparency, the faster election of new members, the fairer promotion of its collective bodies and the strengthening of its extroversion”.
