Mild or moderate drought conditions were experienced in October 2023 38% of the land area of ​​the country, according to the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr.

Central and eastern Macedonia and especially Thrace are experiencing drought conditions, which are characterized as moderate and in places extreme.

Mild drought conditions occur in areas of central and eastern Peloponnese, eastern Sterea (including Attica), central and southern Evia, as well as some Aegean islands. Also, slightly drier conditions were observed in some areas of central and western Macedonia.

The map shows the deviation from the climatic mean of the period 1991-2020, in terms of the amount of rain for the month of October 2023.

Indicative of the absence of significant rainfall is that throughout Greece no higher values ​​than normal are observed, as no significant amounts of rain occurred. On the contrary, 38% of its territory, presents mild or moderate drought conditions.

More specifically, they are observed mild drought conditions in areas of Central and Eastern Peloponnese, Eastern Sterea (including Attica), Central and Southern Evia as well as some Aegean islands.

Also, slightly drier conditions were observed in areas of Central and Western Macedonia, while it is characteristic that the Central-Eastern Macedonia and especially Thrace continue to experience drought conditions which are characterized as moderate and in places extreme. It is noted that Eastern Macedonia and Thrace had dry conditions in September 2023 as well.
