In the dismantling of a gang that stole motorcycles falsifying chassis and engine numbers in an illegal repair shop in the Attica region and then selling their parts whole or in parts, the Agia Varvara Security of the Western Attica Security Sub-Directorate proceeded.

For the case, two members of the gang (a 38-year-old and a 49-year-old) were arrested on Tuesday, November 7, in areas of Attica. of a gang of persons organized to commit theft as a profession, forgery in the form of forgery after use and alteration of vehicle identification details as a follow-up, acceptance and disposal of proceeds of crime as well as theft by complicity.

As it emerged from the investigation, the defendants, at least from September 2023, they united with each other and formed a criminal group – gang for the purpose of removing motorcycles, falsifying their chassis and engine identification numbers and selling them for illegal financial gain.

The 44-year-old had the technical knowledge required to process motorcycle identification numbers, the 38-year-old was active in removing motorcycles while their co-accused acted as motorcycle mechanics for third parties so the group could maintain a wide circle of contacts.

The gang members used ground floor space as a motorcycle workshop which was properly configured with logistical equipment, and there they hid the stolen motorcycles that the 38-year-old removed on “order” from interested buyers or motorcycles that came into his possession with material damage.

Then after they were performing mechanical checks on the motorcycles to assess its conditionthey decided whether to sell them whole or in parts, sending the parts they disassembled to areas outside Attica, while the profit they made from the sales was shared by the 44-year-old and the 38-year-old, while those who mediated were given the amount that was their share.

In particular, as regards the legitimate traffic of the vehicles, they either engaged in forgery in the form of falsifying the identification numbers that were imprinted on the metal surface of the engines, or they mechanically interfered with the impression surface of the engine number by completely altering the identification number by scraping it, falsifying the identity their.

End, were constantly supplied with tools, to expand their clientele, while also performing routine repairs on motorcycles in front of or inside the workshop.

In a search carried out at the workshop and at their home, among others, 9 motorcycle engines, complete and disassembled, were found and confiscated, with the number of them either obviously tampered with, or scraped off,

So far, 5 cases of motorcycle thefts have been solved and falsification of engine identification numbers, while in checks carried out in various areas of Attica, -3- motorcycles that had been repaired by the gang members and had identification data of questionable authenticity were seized.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
