A very important theater performance of awakening and awareness, under the title “Words of Soul” will be presented by the theater group Let’s st-art as part of an event co-organized by the Social Service of the Municipality of Glyfada and the Women’s Union of Glyfada “We – Lena Mavrakaki” with its President Chrysa Loupasakis, at the “Melina Merkouri” Cinema (G . Gennimata and Anat. Romilias 123) next Saturday, November 18, at 6:00 in the afternoon.

This is a project against physical, verbal and psychological violence, in an event where the opposition of society against this sick phenomenon and the truth that prevails in our city will be broken: no woman is alone in this, there is substantial help, there is support and the fear must be eliminated, the silence must end.

It is a daily challenge for all of us, to stop this phenomenon. We cannot remain idle. Every woman should know that she is not alone, she has the support of our social functions and the support of the whole society. It’s not a battle of the sexes, it’s a battle for human rights that we all have to fight together – men and women, public bodies and the private sector“, emphasizes the Mayor of Glyfada, Giorgos Papanikolaou.

According to research and official data, one in four Greek women and one in three women worldwide is a victim of abuse during her lifetime.

Escalating abusive behavior begins with verbal harassment, emotional-mental-physical abuse and in some cases reaches murder, “femicide”, the most extreme form of gender-based violence.

In December 1991, the UN General Assembly declared November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with the aim of highlighting this major issue. In Glyfada we celebrate this international day, with the aim of raising the awareness of our fellow citizens and providing them with valid and thorough information, by representatives of organizations that work on the prevention and treatment of the phenomenon of violence against women. Because gender-based violence is not tolerated, it is not a private matter and concerns us all. Responsible for the action is the Deputy Mayor of Social Care and Solidarity, psychologist Lena Denaxa. A discussion will follow after the end of the play.

The following will speak at the event:

– Marilena Mandrakou: Social Worker, Systemic Psychotherapist.

– Lila Pita: Sociologist, Employment Consultant.

– Rena Vasilaki: President of the Athenaides and the Pankriti Union.

– Eleftheria Kissa: Police Officer A΄AT. Alimos.

The debate will be moderated by Kyriakos Tilgeridis, lawyer and President of the Glyfada Pontian Association “Romania”.
