Hundreds of citizens come early in the morning to the site of the Polytechnic, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the uprising, in order to leave a flower in memory of the people who resisted and fought for democracy.

People of all ages arrive at the courtyard of the educational institution, where 50 years ago thousands of students and citizens experienced the uprising.

Everyone leaves a flower on the door of the institution, which is lying in the courtyard. It is the door that the tank broke down in order for the security forces to enter the university institution to arrest the protesters and break up the occupation.

Student lines are already at the Polytechnic and the gates are expected to close at noon, in order to begin the usual march to the American embassy.

According to police sources, her planning THE GREEK POLICE it foresees an increased police operation throughout the center of the capital, while around 5,000 police officers from all services will be on foot.

In fact, it is possible that the long march will not end up at the American embassy but will continue to the Israeli embassy where it will be guarded by strong police forces.

Today the gates of the institution are expected to be closed at 1:00 p.m., while at 2:00 p.m. the first gatherings in Claithmonos and Polytechnio by student associations are planned.

The general call is scheduled for 14:00 in Klathmonos where they will participate GSEE ADEDY collectives, labor unions, left-wing organizations and anarchists.

Effective from early morning there will be traffic measures to facilitate traffic in the wider area of ​​the center of Athens, while modifications will also be made to MMM routes.

As pointed out in the announcement, the above traffic regulations will be implemented gradually and depending on the traffic conditions presented. Also, according to the Decision of “Road Transport SA”, modifications will be made to the itineraries and stops of the means of transport (Buses – Trolley).

At the same time, the Traffic Directorate of Attica planned and will take measures to facilitate traffic in the wider area of ​​the center of Athens.

Finally, the Police appeals to drivers until Friday 17-11-2023, to avoid driving and parking their vehicles in the areas of the events, the route of the march and around the US Embassy, ​​as well as in the wider area of Centre, both to serve them and to prevent additional traffic problems.

Which Metro stations are closed?

Traffic regulations in the center of Athens and changes to MMM routes are in effect due to the events for the anniversary of the Polytechnic University. In particular, due to the events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic and with the aim of the safe circulation of public transport and the traveling public, OASA made temporary changes to the route or transfer of the starting point until Saturday 18 November 2 at 06:00 bus lines and trolley lines on streets surrounding the Polytechnic and throughout the city center, gradually and depending on the prevailing traffic conditions and the instructions and measures of ELAS.

Furthermore, today Friday the 17th of the month, by order of ELAS, the Monastiraki, Concert Hall, Syntagma and University Metro stations will close at 14:00 and the trains will pass through these stations without making a stop.

Also, today, the routes of bus line X95 SYNTAGMA – AEROL. ATHENS (EXPRESS) will run until the KATECHAKI Metro station.
