The International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS), in collaboration with the Economic and Social Committee of Greece (ECO), are co-organizing an International Conference on: “The role of social dialogue and its institutions in combating inequalities in the world of work”, on November 23 and 24, 2023, in Athens (Grand Hyatt Hotel).

Greetings at the opening of the Conference will be addressed by Mr. Yannis Paidas, President of the O.K.E., Gilbert Houngbo, Director General of the IOC (video), John H. Jacobs, President of AICESIS, and Adonis Georgiadis, Representative of the Prime Minister of of Greece and Minister of Labor and Social Security. At the end of the Conference, Mr. Makis Voridis, Minister of State, will participate with his intervention.
The event will be attended by social partners and members of Economic and Social Councils (ESCs) and similar institutions from forty (40) countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America, representatives of international organizations (AICESIS, ILO, IOE, ITUC OECD, UNCTAD, UN DESA, World Economic Forum), as well as the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).

Issues will be discussed during the work of the conference such as combating inequalities in the world of work, h which is a necessary condition for social justice and decent work for all. The views of international and regional organizations on the challenge of inequalities in the world of work and the measures needed to address them will be presented. National experiences on the role of social dialogue and its institutions in addressing inequalities in the world of work will be presented and proposals to strengthen this role in promoting equality will be discussed. Finally, the results of the relevant global survey by the ILO and AICESIS will be presented.
The conference will conclude its work with the adoption of a Joint Declaration (“Athens Declaration”).
