Globally Recognized as the Top Vehicle Theft Case Investigation for 2022
Award to the Crimes Against Property section of the Attica Security Directorate for the “Operation White Tower” case.
The International Association of Auto Theft Investigators has presented an award to the Property Crimes Prosecution division for the investigation of a case recognized globally as the most significant vehicle theft investigation for the year 2022.
Specifically, it is about the operation with the code name “Operation White Tower”, in the context of which in May 2022 a criminal organization that committed vehicle thefts in Attica was dismantled.
As emphasized in the announcement, its members stole vehicles from areas of Attica, which they falsified using vehicle documents they bought from foreign countries, and then either disposed of them in second-hand vehicle sales yards, or dismantled them and resold the spare parts to companies, both inside and outside the country.
As part of the operation, 8 members of the organization were arrested and 18 cases of vehicle theft were solved, from which they obtained an illegal financial benefit of 388,800 euros, while in order to achieve their criminal activity, they had developed connections with countries of the European Union as well as with third parties Countries.
As ELAS points out, “this event was widely publicized in the mass media, as a result of which the ‘International Association of Auto Theft Investigators’ recognized the case as the one with the greatest impact worldwide in dealing with Organized Crime, regarding vehicle theft. »
The award was given in an event that took place at the headquarters of the sub-directorate for the prosecution of crimes against life and property, in the presence of its chief, the deputy head of the department and officers of the crime against property division.
The International Association of Vehicle Theft Investigators is an organization based in Westminster, Colorado, United States of America. It was established in 1952 to improve communication and co-ordination between authorities dealing with car theft investigations. It is made up of approximately 2,000 members, representing 58 countries and includes representatives of police authorities involved in the investigation, prevention and training of vehicle theft.
