Two people, involved in a case of manufacturing and distribution of adulterated olive oil, were arrested by Police officers of the Property Rights Protection Department of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate, after appropriate use of information, in the context of a coordinated operation.

It’s about father and son aged 36 and 80against whom a case file was filed for violation of Law 4235/2014 “Criminal sanctions for non-compliance in the fields of food, animal feed, animal health and protection and the management of ZYP and PP” and Law 4177/2013 “Arrangements for the purchase of products and the provision of services”.

As it emerged from the police investigation, they created appropriate and organized infrastructure for the illegal preparation and packaging of olive oil, which is produced by treatment of sunflower oil by admixture of suitable pigmentschlorophyll carotene, as well as its packaging and marketing as extra virgin olive oil.

The raw material (sunflower oil) was imported from Bulgaria and then, with the use of the appropriate coloring substances, it was sold as “extra virgin olive oil” with various labels from regions of Greece and was channeled to the market of Bulgaria and our country.

In an investigation carried out yesterday (01-12-2023) in a warehouse of a company active in the wholesale trade of foodstuffs and located in the area of ​​the Municipality of Delta, with the assistance of a special echelon of the E.F.E.T./ Regional Directorate of Central Macedonia / Department of Control for Consumer Protection, found and confiscated in total:

• 6,644 liters of adulterated olive oil, which was in 5 and 3 liter containers labeled “extra virgin olive oil” by various companies,
• 6500 liters of sunflower oil in seven (7) plastic tanks,
• Plenty of labels that read “Extra Virgin Olive Oil”,
• One (1) complete and operational oil filling and standardization facility consisting of piping and tanks containing liquid of unknown chemical composition and dubious quality,
• 9,035 empty metal oil storage packages (containers),
• 358 empty plastic packaging and oil storage (containers),
• 5 invoices from past years and
• 1 I.X. Truck.

Those arrested, with the case filed against them, will be taken to the competent judicial authorities, while samples were taken from the confiscated packaged adulterated olive oil products, which will be sent to the State General Chemistry.
